Real Estate Drone Photo Shoot in Real Time

In this video we take a look at a photo shoot in real time. I did a drone shoot recently and chose to tape it and make a video out of it in order to provide some insight on how I go through the movements of doing a drone photo shoot from remove to landing. I hope you discover it handy!

  1. What can i say? This kind of tutorial is one of the best at YouTube. Thank you. Really.

    1. @Inside Real Estate Photography i will stay tuned 😀 in the middle of the June i will have my very first real estate indoor photography 🙂 🙂

    2. @Marcin Domowicz congrats! Interior photos aren’t too hard, you might already know this stuff, but show as much space as you can, make sure your photos are decently bright, and especially make sure they are level (verticals). Hdr is really useful, especially for exteriors. Rich Baum has a pretty good RE youtube channel, though of course I’d like to see videos from this channel

  2. Love the video and your channel! Watched almost all of your videos now. You make it look easy. Do you have any advice on composition? You seem to have that down pretty well. Also since you’re shooting bracket, are you converting those to HDR, or are you picking the best exposure among those? Also dig the soundtrack

    1. Thanks so much! Really appreciate it! It’s all about practice really. I do so many of these shoots that it’s become almost second nature to me at this point. That’s probably the main reason I started this channel. I thought maybe I could help others by sharing my experiences and the mistakes I’ve made along the way. I am converting the brackets to an HDR image. Like I said in the video, once in a while I’ll just shoot a single RAW frame instead and can achieve similar results. Outdoors I feel brackets are probably unnecessary but I always just shoot them because i feel it can’t hurt to have that extra data. I’m always looking for the most efficient way to do things that yield the best result. That quest will probably never end though. Haha.

    2. @Inside Real Estate Photography Thanks for the response! I’ll just have to practice then. I’m still 50/50 on bracketing or not but I’m leaning that way currently.

  3. wow. after many years of “youtubing” real estate videographers i found you via my Instagram. (Thanks for sending a message with link to your channel.) I usually do search for tips and trick for RE photography and right now this is my favorite channel. I just watched 3 videos.(will watch rest when i have little more time)
Im real estate photographer in Sweden (photographing for 15 years) and im new in video. All tips and tricks are more than welcome. The video i loved most is one with camera settings. I use A7S2 and i was strugguling with settings, specially with autofocus where camera always changed focus in the middle of the shot and it is annoying.. Now i have saved same settings as you and i will try them later today when i shoot next house. I will try your tips on drone filming also.

If you use Final cut pro it would be welcome with tips on clipping.

buy the way. i use a technique in photoshop where i replace sky in max 20-30 seconds. Often without brushing after. I tryed Luminar but my method is way way more effective. I´ll try make a video on it.

    Looking forward new videos!
    All the best

    1. Thanks so much for the kind words and for checking out the videos! So glad you found them helpful! Please let me know how it goes with your video shoot today when you try out the camera settings. I also own the A7s2 as a second camera, love that camera as well. I would definitely love to see your photoshop technique on sky replacements!

  4. Great tutorials mate. Nice to find clear, up to date information specifically for real estate photography. Keep it up!

  5. I appreciate how simple, so I can understand, you keep your videos. Thank you. I too found you on IG. Great job. Look forward to more of your videos.

    1. Esparza Virtual Tours and Video thanks so much! Glad you are finding them helpful! 😊

  6. Love the videos! I am starting up my aerial real estate photography business this month. Got the Mavic Pro 2 on the way and cannot wait to see where this goes.

    1. Ryan Jubb thanks! That’s awesome, best of luck with it! If you need any help with anything feel free to reach out.

  7. I see you crop in the camera
I think I would shoot wider and then crop in PS. Your HDR is stunning! What drone do you use? What is your typical amount of time up in the air per shoot? What screen do you use to view live footage? Thank you for putting this together. Fascinating.

    1. MargaretWolfPhotog thanks! You certainly can shoot wider and crop later to play it safe. I’ve just done so many of these shoots at this point that I trust myself enough to compose my shots how I want them to be later. I’m using a Mavic 2 Pro. If it’s just photos then it only takes me like 15 mins in the air to shoot. If I’m doing video and photos then it would be more like 30-40 mins. I’m just using my iPhone. I had a CrystalSky for quite a while but ended up selling it because I found myself just using my phone more and more out of convenience and decided I really didn’t need it.

    2. @Inside Real Estate Photography Thanks for your response. You are a real pro. Im a licensed real estate agent and do marketing for my brother’s team including shooting inside. Im also recertifying my Part 107 to be able to add drone video/photog to my services in the St. Louis area. I really like how you explained your process. Since I am new to drone, I wonder if I need a bigger screen like iPad to be able to see with glare, sun, screen mode and nearsightedness. Its hard enough to chimp my Canon screen. Ill keep an eye on your channel and will subscribe for more of your great insight. Best to you.

    3. MargaretWolfPhotog thanks for the kind words! You definitely don’t need a bigger screen. A brighter screen may help. An iPad is no brighter than an iPhone. If anything I’d recommend the DJI crystalsky or getting the dji mavic 2 pro smart controller (if you are using a Mavic 2 pro of course). Those screens are optimized to be super bright and visible in direct sunlight. Good luck with everything and if there’s anything I can do to help please let me know!

  8. love the videos, how much do you edit them from when you take the photo to when you give it to the realtor, do you have any examples of you editing them by chance, and i noticed your shutter speed was changing, were you doing that or was it doing that automatically? and why are you shooting in burst mode? sorry for all the questions

  9. Great video. Best one I’ve seen doing it real time. Keep up the great work

  10. What is your editing process for the HDR? I’ve just gotten the original Mavic and shooting 5 AEB raw files, but I noticed you said jpg seems to be as good of quality? Are you HDR merging them in LR?

  11. Thanks for this tutorial! Is nice to see in real time your work and your thought process while flying the drone. Great composition and tips.

  12. Wow, so good work!
Are the pictures you show after the shot are straight from the camera or edited a bit?

    Thanks so much!

  13. Great video Mike. Your flight plan and thought process with this and your other drone video are very helpful. They showed how to optimize your time in the air so that you can get the most out of the shoot. Very important when you have limited time and are multi-tasking.

Many times I’ve been so excited just to be flying I forget about the photography part. It’s much more productive to know what you want before you start your motors!

  14. Looking for my 1st drone, do you think the mini 2 will be enough to cover in real estate photo and video ? how long take you to get the permission ? Thank for the video Mike

    1. The mini 2 is not going to be great but if that’s all you can get with your budget right now then go for it! You mean to pass the FAA test? It was like a couple of months or so to prepare and take the test.

  15. Thanks for the video. I have question: What license is need it for real estate drone photography?

    1. @Inside Real Estate Photography Oh man… you are my inspiration. This is what I want to do for living.

  16. Hi there. one more question: Can the Mavic Air 2 get those great photos as well? Thanks

    1. It gets pretty good photos but the camera is not as good as Mavic 2 pro. This spring I think I’m going to try to get my hands on a Mavic air 2 and do a comparison video as feel a lot of real estate photographers are trying to decide between those 2 drones.

  17. Best way to explain it to us, is to show us. Perfect! Thank you so much, this video answered so many questions I had.

  18. Mike,
Again great video. Do you get insurance for your drone shoots? if so what is a safe amount of liability? i have seen some companies offer plans per hour, month or year.

    1. Hey Richard! I have coverage throughout the whole year. I use State Farm as they were the best rates I could find covering drone operation.

  19. That was amazing how you photoshop the boat trailer out, have you ever did a YouTube video on how you can Photoshop something that size?

    1. I don’t have a video on that but that may be a good idea!

    2. @Inside Real Estate Photography I would love that, it blew my mind to see that boat gone LOL and what do you use for your music download for your videos?

    3. @Inside Real Estate Photography awesome man thank you very much, I’m watching your video on five essential drone shots and taking my notes LOL I got a shoot to do this Sunday. I’m excited.
