The fact that you cannot swap a screen from one new iPhone 14 to another new iPhone 14 without software refusing to work, should tell you everything you need to know about Apple’s attitude towards recycling and sustainability.

Great video David! The ultra is technically not twice as expensive as series 8 when you compare similar specs, 45mm with cellular, and if you want the stronger screen (like the ultra) you need to get the stainless steel version, which is around $700-$729 so not that much more for the ultra, to get much better battery life, larger and brighter screen and much more. I am LOVING mine! I hope you enjoy it as well!

The price isn’t bad when you compare it to the Titanium S7 which was $50 MORE!
I’m surprised it wasn’t $999 TBH!
All I’ve ever had in the past was SS and Ti versions (missed out on ceramic unfortunately) mainly for the sapphire crystal.
Getting this was a no brainer. And I haven’t even had it on my wrist 48 hours and can say it’s the best Apple Watch I’ve had – ever!
The “lip” guards the edge of the crystal from side impacts where it’s more vulnerable to impact. You’re not going to scratch it that’s for sure!
Decades of wearing watches with sapphire crystals I’ve never scratched or broken one. Mineral glass crystals, OTOH, I’ve shattered and scratched many. Worked years in engine rooms and other close quarter places with machinery and high power electric components and tend to be hard on watches. Sapphire crystal is very durable! Don’t put a screen protector on it!
I got mine with the white ocean band. Have not taken it out of the box, wanted the black one but would have had to wait 3 more weeks! Nada, but black would be nicer IMHO.
My Nomad SS bracelet fits and looks great but it’s a bit heavy. I plan on getting an actual Titanium bracelet from Amazon, those are quite nice for under $40!

Have you ever watched JerryRigsEverything’s video on the sapphire crystal on apple watches though? Scratched much easier than a $300 Tissot also with a sapphire crystal. It’s an older video and hopefully they’ve made improvements to the sapphire! https://youtu.be/9EBgaxFfDA0
@David Manning Yes I’ve seen that video. The material that Apple using is indeed sapphire and it shows up on my gem tester as Zack found too. I think the issue is with the pick test it may be revealing a difference due to the final finish used on the Apple material to optimize for touch. I own sapphire crystal timepieces including few Tissots and they definitely don’t scratch as well. I’m sure the grade isn’t the same as my Sea Dweller Deep Sea for sure but it hasn’t scratched on me. Even my Series 0 from 2014 is perfect. And the SS case actually has a dent on the corner from getting hit with a case hardened steel rod! I’ve had doors hit it with enough force to bruise my wrist severely and didn’t even want to look to see the watch thinking it was destroyed and nope, it survived! I can’t imagine what the ultra could take.

It’s pretty rough! But when you compare it to other watches in that sort of adventure genre with comparable features, it’s not even as expensive as those and I can make calls on this watch too! But yeah, still ouch😬
I had the same Nomad band on my Series 5 White Ceramic and I replaced it with the new White Ocean Band and I LOVE it. It’s softer and more comfortable than the Nomad one, and seems to also breathe a little better when sweating and doing activities. Also matches the white ceramic edition really well. It does take a slightly longer time to put on in the morning though.

100 bucks for a rubbery-whatever-polymer watch band, is insane. I’ve paid 40 or 50 for official Apple Watch bands, and I hate that I do that. lol Such a waste of cash.
The Ultra is not expensive at all. Its an Amazing watch but way too big for my tiny wrists.. I got the series 8 stainless steel in gold but will definitely get the orange band….. Nice review and new subbie!!!!
