This thing is bonkers guys! Let me know what questions you have on this thing and I’ll get them answered here! I’ll also for sure have a follow up video on this camera, so I might even feature your question in that video! Thanks guys, you rock๐
Hey David, if you literally just picked up the One RS twin edition like last week ๐, would you just jump on this modular upagrade? Iโm thinking if you get this you wouldnโt go back to the standard 360 or the 4K boost lens.
@e.xiii.t gahhhh, that’s a tough question! I still like having both a 360 camera and regular shooting action camera with me on any adventure that we go on. The ONE RS can obviously be both of those things, but if you went for this setup, then you would need to also have another camera to have that ability to just shoot, edit, post. Dang man, that’s a tough call!
Comparisons! Would be great to see the footage quality against other 360 cameras and even GoPro 10 and DJI action 2
More videos coming soon with more side by sides for sure Luis! That’s a solid idea to throw in some GoPro 10 footage And DJI Action 2 footage as well to show the different between 360 cams and traditional action cams. Thanks dude!
This is the final piece of the puzzle for my gear. I’ve been considering a 360 camera for sometime and this ticks all the boxes! yeah it’s not cheap but can see why it’s price the way it is.
This is for sure the highest quality consumer level 360 camera on the market right now! Again though, if you’re looking at action sports at all, go for the ONE X2, but if you’re just looking for the highest quality, this thing is bananas good!
so currently I’m using your suggested workflow to process the footage in post. I download the footy to my phone and then compose the shot and then export it. My question is, it already take a kind of long time to download the footage with the insta360 one X2. Does this amount of time double with the extra 6k footage size?
Well first up, we gotta get you using one of their Quick Readers! I don’t shoot with the Quick Reader attached to the camera, but instead just pop the SD card out after shooting, pop it in the quick-reader, then plug that into my camera. The downloads are way way faster! With this, the files aren’t necessarily that much larger. You’re just going from 5.7K to 6K, but the quality of those files is much higher because of the larger sensors๐
Hi David,
Howโs the stitching and audio? Looking forward to a detailed update once you put it through its paces!
The stitching is amazing, which is pretty normal for Insta360 and the audio is fairly good, which is also normal for Insta360. They do have an audio adapter for this though that you can then plug in a wireless mic system like the GO II or DJI Mic and it puts it right in the stitch line, so it stays invisible. I’ll make sure to get that in the follow up video!
Thank you David!! Wow what an amazing camera!! This along wit my Hero 10 would be an awesome pair. Couple questions as a newbie if you don’t mind…. First, is it true 6K after import/export using FCPX or otherwise? Secondly, can all fisheye be removed? If so…….. Oop’s three quetions; is there much crop? As always, Thank You for another amazing video!! Awesome job!! ๐๐
Solid questions RAPA! The full 360 video image is 6K, so when you reframe, you are cropping into a section of that 6K image. The export that you pull out is 1080, but you can export from the Studio App on your computer in 4K ProRes, so the files coming out are incredible looking! The amount of fisheye is totally up to you. When you crop in further, it reduces, and when you frame wider you’ll see more of it๐
Like most tech it will be nice when its a 1/4 of its price, 1/2 the size and batteries last 10x as long. I think the game changer and adoption of 360 will be when apple integrates 360 lenses into an IPhone, then we will just use out phone which 90% of us do taking pictures. Donโt get me wrong I use my GoPro attached outside my plane when I fly, Just wish it didnโt overheat and the batteries didnโt die in 30 minutes. Kinda hard to swap out batteries in mid-air. Theyโll get there.
Hahaa! An Apple iPhone 360 camera would be super dope, but might bulge up the phone a bit ๐คฃ For sure would love to see the price point come down, but I’m sure that’ll happen over time. The quality on this thing though is so incredible that it just reinforces in my mind that 360 cameras are the future๐
Oh man, we think you found the coolest way to test a camera ๐คฏ Awesome stuff, David, happy you love it as much as we do!
I was showing everyone at the gliderport the footage and I’m pretty sure there will be many more 360 cams down there soon๐คฃ People’s minds were blown๐คฏ
Great video thank you:) I just Can’t wait to see more videos from of this camera..@insta360 has raised the bar to next level….i just wish its launched in same price everywhere.
Great breakdown of this camera! You never fail to give the best quick review on cameras. Love it. And I do think we are getting close to where 360 cameras are the only action camera you need, but I think the size needs to go back down a bit, and like you said, they need to be waterproof. Also, I didn’t see anything about protecting the lenses while in use. I know on my Go 2, you can screw on a UV filter/lens protector, is that something you can do on this? Just don’t want to have to get the whole thing replaced or have a lens ruined.
thanks for the review David! loving the new camera, I was really hoping it was gonna be more in my price range so I think ill be grabbing up an OneX2 in the next day or 2.
Wow! What an experience! The image on the sun does looks great. Ok so my question will be, ig ur a regular guy (not much into photo) and u own a 360×2 already…should u up date to this one, or keep it until the next jump? Cause i got mine on this xmas and now is this new one
Look at the comparison videos. The one x2 (5.7k) footage looks almost indentical to the new camera (6k). Only difference would be the new camera isnโt waterproof and might be a little better in low light. Not worth $800 especially if you already have the one x2
Wow, another killer product from insta360! It is the future.
Question, how to save money when see an amazing product like this… can’t say no to it, right?
Damn, David, great review. I must say that I live vicariously through your shot sequences that exhibit the perfmance of the gear you’re reviewing, and the music/editing is spot on. I absolutely love it and it doesn’t go unnoticed, brotha! Awesome content! Keep it up!
My issues with this camera are the size, the weight and the dang price! ๐ฅต but i love that itโs a 1โ sensor. Oh also, waterproof. I might stick to my One X2 for a little bit and hopefully someone can convince me to upgrade to this camera. Lmao!
Also, can you share the contact information of the para-gliding guys? I wanna try that!
The x2 has 5.7k and the new one is only 6k
Other than that the only โupgradeโ is better low light but it not being waterproof is a dealbreaker.
Really hard to justify this costing twice as much
@David Salsberry yeah, youโre right. If it is waterproof, then it would be different. 1โ sensor, waterproof, modular. I wouldnโt mind the size and weight.
I’m mind blown how well the camera worked while facing the sun. The camera looks like it’s from Star Trek
Hey David, is there an action camera mode, where you can take full advantage of the 1″ sensor on just one lens?
Unfortunately not yet. It’s something I’ve passed along though, because the ONE X2 has that mode. Hopefully it will be a firmware update๐
alright, some thoughts from someone who literally bought the one RS 2 days ago.
I agree with you when you are saying “360 action cameras are the future” because you don’t have to worry about the camera angle; plus, it allows you to achieve insane, much more creative shots than you would get on a normal action cam.
HOWEVER. The price is not justified at all, even only for the upgrade kit for those who already own a One RS Twin. To me, the upgrade kit should be priced at about 300โฌ to make sense: the modularity should help achieving lower prices, even at the cost of waterproofing the camera.
And regarding this camera not being waterproof: it’s totally fine! That’s because 360 lenses are not well suited for underwater shooting. the lenses have a specific radius which simply do not play well with refraction caused by water. So basically to get a full action camera you are supposed to get a gopro for more generic things, and a 360 camera for 360 things. Want a solid compromise? Then there is the one RS twin.
I hope I was able to give you all a different perspective ๐
peace and love
I (Kelley) was shocked that you could see the selfy stick in your hand more than the other onex2. It wasn’t quite as invisible. It may have been the angles. The low light looked great. I just at this point can’t see paying that much for one right now. Maybe one day. Especially since I just bought the oneX2 (Which I love)
Looks awesome. Invested in the One RS twin edition, so I’ll stay with it as I need waterproofing. It’s a shame this 1″ lense isn’t compatible with the One RS. Now that’s an upgrade to consider. ๐ค๐๐ผ
