Okay, I want to hear your thoughts! Is that what you expected? And with these results, does that change how you feel about these cameras and which one you would ultimately buy?
Very informatif and really help me to make the decision. Next, I realy would love to see You comparing GoPro Hero11 vs Dji Osmo Action 3 vs Insta360 X3, especialy for the image quality. Again… Thank you for your video that realy helpful… ๐
Dude Need a night light trail (Night TimeLapse) Go Pro is bragging about it… please do…
DJI OA3 has definite usability improvements. Better water resistance/depth rating, physical button to switch presets. Is the battery a lot better than the Hero 10/11? I use these cameras in the ocean, so even if I have spare batteries, often it is not safe to swap batteries. So general battery life is important. Overheating is never a problem for me, in the ocean, the camera gets cooled down, and anyway I shoot mostly 1 min clips.
I can admit, I bought the Hero 11 before seeing this test, so… yeah. ๐
I think the OSMO Action 3 looks really good, now just wondering about a remote control for multi cam and if it’s possible to run a external mic and external battery bank at the same time like we cold with the OSMO Action 1.
Epic test!!! Thank you for taking the time to run it. ๐ Itโs a different animal down here in South Florida where our temps run about 20 degrees hotter. I will say, DJI OSMO Action has never let me down. Iโve accidentally left it mounted as my dash cam for all day in the sun and it still recorded a small skate session no problem. I have no doubts about the OA3!
Wooohoo,.. .been waiting for this video. A much better controlled environment David, you too are learning and improving mate. Thanks for the 18hrs put into this video and can’t wait for the full comparison video next week. Cheerio!
Great comparison test. I ride mountain bikes in the Las Vegas area and some rides take over an hour. Overheating for me is a big deal when is 100ยฐ F outside and trying to record a session. Iโll be putting the Action 3 to the test in the summer!
I record long cycling tours, 2h or so at 4k60 with my DJI pocket 2, so there are people for sure who use it like that. Thereโs a bunch of walking channels who do.
Thereโs also people recording sim racing, little to no airflow ,so yeah
The opposite of click bate! Multiple cameras tested and a bit of a battery test to boot ๐ Super impressed with both the Action 3 and the Gopro 11 especially it’s recording 10 bit! Thanks for doing this test.
I use mine when I go out kayak fishing so I run mine using looping for hours at a time. I like these tests as they are huge for me.
Agreed! I do the same thing. I use a wind screen on my GoPro and that causes the overheating to be worse sometimes too.
Great test, with really interesting results, thanks for doing it. Recently got my first GoPro (H10), and loving it. I live in the Arctic and cameras overheating is not really an issue. ๐ ๐
it dies when too cold too haha
@fdsaffff haha! Yep
I am excited to see DJI Osmo Action 3 and GoPro Hero 11 go head-to-head in low light. Although action cams are not reliable in low light. But, I still want to know who would rise its performance against each other.
I’m also waiting for it.
Gene Nagata from Potato Jet did a comparison. Action 3 is slightly better since it has a larger sensor than Hero 11. Hero 11 is slightly better in daylight due to having newer and better sensor than Action 11.
@HD Apex Yeah. I saw that video. DJI OA3 is better in low light. However, I want to see David’s perspective and his nerdy opinion about it. As in, going to the specs of each action cam from ISO, exposure, AWB, etc.
Doing the Lord’s work! Appreciate the scientific testing for all of these cameras ๐๐ป Osmo Action 3 continues to impress!! Great video, sir.
Great video as always, David. Thinking of getting one of the two big guys. Leaning towards GP11 because of its slow motion capabilities, horizon lock and dinamic range vs DJI Action 3โฆ. But what about GP11 freezes. Are they still there. Back in time I remember having to pull out the battery because of the damm camera freezes up. Is this problem solved on GP11? Thx a lot in advance!
In ideal conditions those are okay results but I’ll bet if it is hot environment GoPro 11 will die much sooner than DJI Osmo 3.. also Osmo 3 is rated to work in colder environment too! That is why i’m leaning towards to the Osmo.. I know image quality isn’t as good as in GoPro but so many other benefits too in Osmo.
No reason at all to think that. Hundreds and hundreds of hours on my H9B and H10B in South Florida 100F plus and not once has either of them overheated. Not once. You are right about the IQ, however. Its really not even close. The Osmo’s remind me of the H5B 4k. Its basically 1080p HQ in a 4k container. That’s fine for a lot of folks, so don’t get me wrong. But, yeah, its not even close to being a 4k camera.
The nerd in me loves this work on overheating. Thanks for putting in the work for us. Congrats on the new addition to the family.
Cory, you rock man, thank you so much! And holy heck are overheating tests long. Mainly itโs the cool down times. Test > cool down > charge > cool down > test again๐คฃ
Thank you so much for doing the battery tests David!!! Wow! Iโm so happy the DJI Osmo Action 3 won! And with blazing stars! I went ahead and ordered it and with Adventure Combo and it was ALL under $500!
Btw, that box should be saying, โManning.โ Just saying!
I have two Hero 10s that I’ve been using for the past year to film fishing videos at 4k 30 fps. I film for up to a few hours at a time straight. I’m basically walking slowly up a creek. They both overheat constantly in basically any temperature above 70 degrees. I freaking hate those cameras. I’m going to hate-buy the Hero 11, but I’m also going to get the Action 3 as a backup because I’ve lost trust in GoPro.
I run my cameras at very long lengths as I film as I am flying airplanes so this test was very important to me. I am very excited to start using the Action 3.
Great video. Love these tests and I appreciate the effort it takes to produce it! Side note: The ending clip was adorable.
One thing to consider when watching head to head reviews…DJI never claimed the Osmo Action 3 would best GoPro Hero 11 in all categories, if they did, they would of priced the Osmo Action 3 at the same price as GoPro Hero 11. What it does do, is it makes it easier for creators via internal menu driven options and a robust ecosystem. DJI is targeting a specific audience Just a thought….
Having a Hero 8 Black and disappointed, this is the video review I’ve been waiting for… thank you!!!!!!!!!!
Based on what I’ve read, it seems both companies are trying to reach more of the general market, not just action peeps. In that case, overheating is a big issue. I’m a general consumer. I don’t want to spend thousand on RX100’s, or carry bulky DSLR’s, or even a camcorder that now seems like a brick. An action camera combines the best of many worlds, except maybe MGM film quality, although many of your videos looks of IMAX quality. Looks like Action 3 will work for recitals, concerts, plays, etc., at least for this general consumer. And still be able to make action videos if I get that wild hair up there.
Just a quick ask if I may. Does the Action 3 do chaptering when recording? One thing I do appreciate on the GoPro. Thanks again for this awesome video!!!
4:59 I regularly run my Osmo Action for hours and hours at a time while i’m out filming train hopping trips and even with the slight bit of a breeze it still gets extremely hot BUT doesn’t ever shut off. I think my use case is probably worst case scenario for these things. That is what kept me from buying the Hero 10 Black, i feel like I would send it into nuclear meltdown trying to film the way I do. If the Osmo Action 3 deals with heat as well as the 1 did then i’m about to empty my savings out I think hahahaa
