Sony has released the second variation of their G Master 24-70mm f/2.8 zoom lens. I've had a chance to deal with this lens for a few weeks now and in this video I'm going to compare it not just with the original version, but likewise the Nikon and Canon mirrorless zoom lenses of the very same focal variety.
The outcomes will shock you.

This is why I love your channel. No one literally compared them like you did. Bravo 👏🏻
I’m watching tons of review videos on this new GM 24-70mm V2 and Im impressed! As an event shooter who primary uses zoom lenses, this new G-Master would be perfect for my collections. Definitely picking one up. Thanks for the review Ted.
Huge kudos to Sony for making it so much smaller…. the smaller/lighter bodies of mirrorless cameras are meaningless if the lenses continue getting bigger and heavier as they have been.
I don’t like barrel zooms. Sure wish there was internal zoom and focus.
Is there a 24-70/2.8 zoom that is not a barrel zoom?
Sigma should not have been left out 😬
Just another gear video, yawn.
You chose to watch it.
The man has to get paid and it will get the clicks. Beside that, not all gear videos are equal and I appreciate his point of view.
This lens reminds me Fuji 16-80mm in case of design and aparture ring
I think their 85gm was the first GM they made.
Reasonably nice narrative for the present day lenses.
However, apart from some slightly improved sharpness, these present day lenses are not as good or nearly as good compared to old lenses.
The current lenses bank heavily on in body correction built into the cameras. In fact these current lenses will never stand a test on a proper optical test bench. These are mostly lousy lenses. Period.
Can you provide.a link to a comparison that justifies and grounds your assertion that older was better. It should be a zoom to zoom comparison. No primes allowed.
Another great review! I liked how you mentioned how hard it is manufacture a 24-70 f2.8 zoom lens. As a hybrid videographer I am still looking for a 20-50 f2.8 zoom. Would you say that it would be even harder, bigger and heavier to make such focal length?
Thank you for your review and your comparison. I actually used to own the version 1 (which I sold once I learned the Version 2 was planned) but now have access to both the Canon and Nikon and have been trying them out more so your comparison was great to see. Will probably purchase the upgrade.
How about canon f 2.0 ?
Nicely done. The only thing I was left wanting were some real world comparisons after the curvature test.
Awesome review, thanks!
Only failure with this lens is that you must use sony cameras with it.
I fail to see any purpose or value in such comparisons. It really doesn’t matter which one is “better” as very few people can either see the difference, nor do they have the hardware (adapters) to make the purchase of one over another (which don’t exist for the Nikon Z lenses).
You’re probably the only youtuber that mentioned distortion. I was worried about it because of the smaller size but it’s not that bad. Great video.
